About CMMC 2.0
The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is a Department of Defense program designed to secure federal government contract information and sensitive data, with its requirements applying to contractors in the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). While the CMMC was officially created in 2019, it’s built on two decades of federal agency programs intended to safeguard our nation’s information systems.
Currently, CMMC 2.0 is still in the Department’s rule-making period, and it is expected that CMMC 2.0 standards will become a contract requirement for all DIB organizations upon the completion of the rule-making.
Because CMMC 2.0 has such an emphasis on information security, a company’s IT vendors will need to meet the strict certification requirements of the program, or the company could be at risk of losing its government contracts.
